Kia's Affordable EVs Get a Power Boost and a Fun Twist!
Kia's Electric Revolution: More Power, More Fun
Kia has unveiled a thrilling upgrade to its EV lineup, introducing dual-motor versions of the EV3, EV4, and EV5, packed with extra horsepower and exciting features. These new GT models promise to deliver an emotional driving experience, combining advanced technology with a sporty edge.
The EV3 GT and EV4 GT lead the way with a combined 282 horsepower, while the EV5 GT boasts an impressive 302 horsepower. But here's where it gets controversial: despite these power upgrades, they're still not in the same league as the wild EV6 GT.
Previously, these models offered only single-motor, front-wheel-drive options, prioritizing comfort over excitement. However, Kia aims to change that perception with these GT editions, promising an engaging drive that blends electric responsiveness with a sporty character.
And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the power. Kia has also equipped these models with a dedicated GT driving mode and adjustable suspension, ensuring a dynamic and customizable ride. The non-GT versions are known for their soft, comfort-oriented suspension, so the GT models will offer a noticeably stiffer and more responsive handling experience.
On the outside, these GT models showcase subtle design tweaks and badging to reflect their enhanced sportiness. Inside, you'll find body-hugging sports seats, a GT steering wheel, and an innovative feature: artificial engine sounds with virtual gear shifting, adding a unique twist to the silent EV experience.
The EV3 GT, a subcompact crossover, and the EV4 GT, a compact hatchback or sedan, deliver their combined horsepower from a front motor and a smaller rear motor. The EV5 GT gets a slight power boost with a more powerful front motor, making it the most potent of the trio.
Rumors suggested these smaller GT models might reach 400 horsepower, but even without that extreme power, they're significantly quicker. The EV4 GT takes the lead with a 0-62 mph time of 5.6 seconds, followed by the EV3 GT at 5.7 seconds, and the larger EV5 GT at 6.2 seconds.
While we don't have the WLTP range ratings for these new GT cars, we know they all share the same 81.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack. This provides an impressive range of up to 376 miles for the EV3, 391 miles for the EV4, and 344 miles for the EV5. However, with the additional power draw and weight of the second motor, expect a slight reduction in range.
Soohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe, emphasized, "Our new electric Kia GT models prove that electrification can be emotional and resolute. These GTs offer an engaging drive, combining electric power with sporty character and all-purpose capability. They're crafted for those who want the best of both worlds: excitement and responsible mobility."
Kia plans to commence production of these GT models in the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected shortly after. There's no official word yet on whether the smallest EV in Kia's lineup, the subcompact EV2, will receive a dual-motor GT version.
