The Park Hyatt Tokyo: A Timeless Experience, Except for the Rooms
The Park Hyatt Tokyo has managed to preserve its unique vibe despite the renovation. The high ceilings in the public areas, which span multiple floors of the Shinjuku Park Tower, create an unforgettable atmosphere. However, the rooms feel like a missed opportunity. While they're luxurious, they lack the character that defines the rest of the hotel. It's almost as if the designers wanted the rooms to be a blank canvas, allowing the rest of the facilities to shine.
Legendary Restaurants and Bars
The Park Hyatt Tokyo's food and beverage offerings are its true stars. The New York Bar & Grill, made famous by "Lost in Translation," is a vibrant space with live music every night. The New York Grill is another excellent option. Girandole by Alain Ducasse, where breakfast is served, offers a delightful spread. The Western breakfast option includes a menu item and access to a high-quality buffet, possibly the best I've ever encountered. The pastries are exceptional, and the dishes are served in individual portions, adding to the overall experience. Kozue, the Japanese restaurant, offers a kaiseki dining concept, and Peak Lounge & Bar provides a fun atmosphere.
An Expansive Wellness Area
Club on the Park, the hotel's wellness area, is an impressive 2,100 square meters. It features whirlpools, saunas, relaxation rooms, and a signature green color scheme. The 20-meter pool, a recognizable feature, remains unchanged, which is a bit disappointing. The gym, located on the same level, is accessible from 6 AM to 10 PM daily.
Location: A Matter of Perspective
The Park Hyatt Tokyo's location in Shinjuku might not be ideal for everyone. While the area isn't particularly picturesque, the views from the hotel are stunning, especially on clear days when Mount Fuji is visible. Public transportation is efficient, but the hotel isn't in the heart of the action.
