Rodney Harrison's On-Air Freeze-Up: What Happened? (2025)

Rodney Harrison's 'Sunday Night Football' freeze-up sparks concern from fans

NBC Sports analyst Rodney Harrison's performance during the pregame show for the 'Sunday Night Football' game between the Broncos and the Commanders raised eyebrows. As he attempted to provide insights on how to attack Washington's defense, Harrison froze up, paused, and seemed to lose his train of thought.

"Yeah, I look at..." Harrison began, before seemingly mumbling something and then pausing. He then apologized, stating, "I forgot... I'm sorry." After the question was repeated, he responded, "The best way to attack them..." He attributed his momentary lapse to the "a lot of stuff going on."

Some viewers expressed concern online, with one person writing, "Something not right with Rodney Harrison tonight," and sharing a clip of the incident. Others questioned whether Harrison was feeling cold at the Northwest Stadium in Maryland, where temperatures were in the upper 30s, or if he was distracted by a producer speaking in his earpiece.

Awful Announcing reported that Harrison was fine and appeared in the postgame show. The Broncos ultimately won the game 27-26 in overtime, extending their winning streak to nine games. Washington's quarterback, Jayden Daniels, was out with a dislocated elbow injury, and backup Marcus Mariota threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Harrison, a former two-time Super Bowl champion safety, played 15 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and the New England Patriots. He made two Pro Bowls and earned two All-Pro first-team selections. After retiring from the NFL in 2009, he joined NBC as an analyst.
